Although summer is always a popular time for surgery, non-surgical treatments continue to be popular with my patients during the summer months. This summer there are three blockbuster cosmetic injectable treatments that are making big waves in my practice. Two of the treatments are relatively new kids on the block and one is an oldie but goodie.
Volbella is one of the newest fillers that has become available to physicians in the United States. It is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid (like Juvederm and Restylane). Hyaluronic acid is a clear gel that occurs naturally in our bodies, adding hydration to our skin and joints. Volbella is a hyaluronic acid filler with physical properties that make it an ideal treatment for fine lines around the mouth and for adding subtle shape and volume to the lips. Volbella has been a game changer in my practice and has quickly become the favorite filler for patients who want to soften their wrinkles and enhance their lips without looking puffy or overdone. Off label, Volbella is also a fantastic tool when used under the eyes in patients with under-eye hollows. Typically, when used under the eyes, Volbella is layered superficially with another product injected more deeply to create a full, even correction of the hollowing.
Another hot new injectable that is transforming my practice this summer is Vollure. Vollure is also a hyaluronic acid filler that was recently approved by the FDA for treating moderate to severe wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines). Vollure is made with a unique technology that allows it to last for 18 months in some patients. Vollure injects smoothly and evenly and is thicker than Volbella, providing a natural correction of smile lines (the lines between the nose and corner of the mouth) and marionette lines (the lines or creases between the corner of the mouth and chin). Off-label, I have consistently seen phenomenal results injecting Vollure in lips where it achieves a more impactful enhancement without the lumps and bumps that can be seen with other fillers. Patients rave about their soft, full lips with Vollure and often notices less swelling than with other types of fillers.
The third injectable that is rocking the boat this summer (as it has for many years) is Botox. Botox has become a household name for good reason. When injected into tiny muscles in the face, it causes a softening of lines and wrinkles and can be used to shape the brow, smooth the upper lip, lift the corners of the mouth, soften bands in the neck, and contour the jawline. In my practice, Botox treatments have increased more than 50% from last year which reflects my patients’ overwhelming satisfaction with their treatments and their willingness to refer friends and family to me to experience Botox for themselves. The effects of Botox are visible within a week of injection and last for 3-4 months in most patients.
Volbella, Vollure, and Botox are 3 fantastic non-surgical treatments that can be used in almost every patient to help them achieve their aesthetic goals. As always, consultations for surgical and non-surgical procedures with me are complimentary. There is no better time than the summer to try something new!
