Revision Rhinoplasty

What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

While most patients are satisfied with the final outcome of their rhinoplasty procedure, there are times when patients are disappointed with their final result. This is particularly true for procedures performed by surgeons inexperienced in the intricacies and complexities of nasal surgery. Patients may experience changes to the appearance or function of the nose that requires additional surgery to produce a positive outcome. This second procedure is known as revision rhinoplasty.

Choosing a Surgeon for Your Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty can be more complex than the original procedure for many reasons. Scar tissue and cartilage loss can make the surgery more challenging, often requiring the harvesting of cartilage from another area like the ear or rib. In many cases, both appearance and function must be addressed simultaneously in the revision procedure, which requires a comprehensive understanding of both the anatomy and the physiology of the nose.

Dr. Daines specializes in revision rhinoplasty along with other types of nose surgery, ensuring you get the best possible result from your procedure. After performing numerous revision procedures, Dr. Daines can help you determine specifically what needs to be done to correct imperfections left from the initial surgery and help you achieve your aesthetic and medical goals.

Revision rhinoplasty offers high patient satisfaction after an initial procedure has fallen short, as long as it is performed by a highly skilled and experienced facial plastic surgeon. To learn more about this procedure, contact Daines Plastic Surgery at 949-397-6499.

Procedure Details

The extent of revision rhinoplasty will depend on the specific issues to be addressed during the procedure. Some surgeries may be performed under local anesthesia if minimal correction is required. Others may involve general anesthesia and require incisions inside the nasal passages or on the outside of the nose, in the narrow band of tissue that separates the nostrils. During the procedure, nasal tissue is rearranged and bone structure is reshaped and strengthened for a more attractive contour to the nose, enhanced symmetry and improved nasal function.

Recovery from revision rhinoplasty is often shorter and more comfortable than patients expect. Discomfort is typically minimal and can be effectively managed with oral pain medication. Bruising and swelling are normal and typically subside about 1-2 weeks after the procedure. Most patients are back to work within 5-7 days after revision rhinoplasty, although more strenuous activities and contact sports may be restricted for much longer.
