Facial Chemical Peels

What is a Facial Peel?

Peels have been used safely and effectively for decades to improve the appearance and health of the skin. A peel involves the application of one or more agents to the skin to achieve a temporary controlled injury. The skin’s healing response is the source of the peel’s intended therapeutic effects including skin tightening, removal of unwanted lines and spots, and improvement in discoloration.

Dr. Daines performs customized customized chemical peels, including TCA and VI peels in his Newport Beach office. Based on your skin’s overall condition and the treatment objective, Dr. Daines will control the method and depth of the peel to enhance your results. In some cases a single peel will be sufficient to achieve your aesthetic goals, but usually your treatment plan will include a series of peels to amplify the benefits to your skin.

Prior to your facial peel, Dr. Daines may ask you to follow a skin care program to prepare your skin for an optimal result. You will also receive instructions for caring for your skin after your treatment, including avoiding sun exposure during the healing process. A peel may not be indicated in patients with certain skin conditions or healing disorders. If you have a history of cold sores, you may be given an oral anti-viral medication to take following your peel to prevent an outbreak.

Facial peels can be performed alone or as a component of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan. Peels are an important tool used in Dr. Daines’ non-surgical approach to improving your appearance. I cannot express more how pleased I am with the results of my eye peels. I had my first one last year and had very nice results. The wrinkles, crinkles, around the eyes look softer and tighter. I just had my second eye peel and am shocked how much more youthful the skin around my eyes appear since my first eye peel. I will definely be back for another before my daughter’s wedding. I am so pleased! – Diane A.

Procedure Details

During the procedure, your skin will experience varying degrees of stinging or burning. The discomfort from superficial peels is minimal, whereas deeper peels may require sedation to make them more tolerable. Total treatment time will also vary, depending on the depth of the peel and the size of the treatment area.

After a superficial peel, you can expect your skin to be pink and gently exfoliate over the course of a few days. There is no need to take time off to recover from this type of treatment. Deeper peels have a more prolonged recovery but also have more dramatic effects on the appearance of your skin. Deep peels also provide long-lasting results, with some treatments only needing to be performed once over a lifetime.
