What Is Submental Fat?
Submental fat is the collection of fat beneath the chin that often contributes to the appearance of a double chin. This area can become more prominent due to aging, genetics, or weight changes, even if you lead a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, submental fullness typically does not respond well to diet and exercise.
A study by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) found that more than two-thirds of people are bothered by excess fat under the chin, similar to the number of individuals concerned about fine lines and wrinkles. KYBELLA offers an effective, nonsurgical option to address this widespread concern.

KYBELLA is ideal for people with mild to moderate submental fullness who are looking for a noninvasive alternative to surgery. What To Expect During Treatment
KYBELLA is administered through a series of small injections placed strategically beneath the chin. A topical numbing cream is typically applied beforehand to maximize comfort. Most appointments take about 30 minutes, although the total time may vary if numbing is used.
Initial results often appear within 3 to 4 weeks following your first treatment. However, most patients benefit from 2 to 3 sessions about a month apart. Once the desired contour is achieved, the results are considered permanent, as the body destroys and eliminates the treated fat cells.
Recovery and Results
KYBELLA requires little to no downtime. Most patients return to regular activities immediately, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first 24 hours. Temporary swelling, mild discomfort, or bruising can occur. The swelling lasts for 2 to 5 days for most patients. Many patients notice that side effects decrease with each subsequent session.
While complications are rare, some patients may experience prolonged swelling, numbness, or difficulty swallowing. These effects usually resolve on their own within a week.
