Juvéderm Fillers Vollure and Volbella
You’ve probably noticed that as your skin ages, it becomes more difficult to keep it hydrated. Age causes your skin to thin, and coupled with dehydration of the cells, the previously fresh and resilient complexion you enjoyed falls victim to lines and wrinkles that eventually etch themselves into deep folds around your mouth and nose. You also may begin to see a gradual loss of volume in your face, as the youthful plumpness in your cheeks and lips decreases. Increased water consumption, moisturizing creams (both day and night) and penetrating serums can help, but the problem is often due to the skin’s declining ability to hold onto moisture.
The Newest Innovation in Injectable Fillers
Previously, injectable wrinkle fillers were primarily made of collagen, which provided results, but they didn’t last long and didn’t actually help your skin repair itself — they filled the hollowed out spaces and that was it. However, today’s fillers are designed to plump up tissue and eliminate wrinkles in a way that enhances your body’s natural processes and replenishes the moisture that you’ve lost.
At Daines Plastic Surgery, we offer Juvéderm Vollure™ XC, a hyaluronic acid-based filler that is FDA approved to soften moderate to severe lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. The hyaluronic acid adds volume by balancing and hydrating the skin cells, refreshing your aging skin. The results are subtle, natural, and last for up to 18 months — longer than any other filler on the market. We are also proud to offer Juvéderm Volbella® XC, another hyaluronic acid-based filler which is used to boost lip volume and erase fine lines around the mouth for up to a year. Both fillers can be used alone or combined to give you a more youthful glow overall.
Juvéderm Vollure™ XC, Juvéderm Volbella® XC, and Hyaluronic Acid
So what is hyaluronic acid, and why is it so much better than other injectable fillers? Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body, and is responsible for lubrication of joints and other tissues. It is an amazing little molecule that has the ability to hold nearly 1,000 times its weight in water – that’s almost six liters!
Hyaluronic Acid is found in almost every cell in the body, but nearly 50% of the total amount is concentrated in the skin. Collagen (which is also found in the body) gives skin its firmness and elasticity, while hyaluronic acid keeps that collagen hydrated. As you age, the body produces less hyaluronic acid, and the collagen that is used to make the active facial expressions that are a part of our everyday life begins to break down. As the collagen fibers dry out, the skin becomes less elastic, and that is when wrinkles begin to appear. Hyaluronic acid fillers bind to the water in your body, revitalizing your skin and causing it to look plumper and more radiant, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
