Facial Fractures

Although facial bones can usually withstand strong forces without damage, occasionally blows to the face cause the bones to break (fracture). These injuries can occur when playing sports or as a result of altercations or falls. Facial fractures often require surgical repair to ensure proper healing and to prevent long-term deformity.

The bones of the face tend to fracture in characteristic patterns and in specific locations. The most common facial injuries include fractures of the nose, mandible (jaw), zygoma (cheek bone), and orbit (eye socket). Utilizing hidden or camouflaged incisions and advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Daines repositions broken facial bones and places the fragments in proper alignment. Some fractures can even be repaired without making any incisions (closed reduction).
